Sharpham Pinot Noir 2016

Three days cold maceration followed by fermentation on the skins has resulted in a beautifully deep, garnet coloured wine. It is aged in oak barrels giving a firm structure, which is balanced by vibrant, rich, black fruit flavours.

Tasting notes

Aging: - Ages well for up to five years.

Style: - Fruity young red

Colour: - Light purple/red

Nose: - Soft ripe summer fruit

Palette: - Surprisingly rich with cherry and strawberry fruit and soft tannins.

Wine making

The red grapes were picked during the latter part of October. They were brought into the winery cruched and de-stemmed before being put into a specialist tank to partially ferment on their skins. After a few days the grapes are pressed to extract the wine, before being transferred into stainless steel tanks to finish the fermentation.

Food notes

Fantastic with Sharpham cheese, particularly the Sharpham Rustic. A brilliant accompaniment to Italian food and to light red meats and casseroles. Try it with duck in a black cherry sauce.

 Awards

SILVER medal - UKVA National Competition.
